Singapore hotel updates

Icons given new life as Raffles reopens; a Fairmont tower revitalised; Kempinski looking grand and The Clan joins the heritage fray, while Marriott Tang Plaza hosts TEDx

Fairmont Singapore
TALK of the town may be the re-opening of Raffles Singapore (above) after renovation, but sister Accor property Fairmont – alongside the Raffles City Convention Centre – is also entering a new era.

An 18-month transformation of the Fairmont Singapore’s South Tower is also taking the Lion City’s luxury offerings to the next level with upgrades across 403 rooms. In both the North and South Towers, there is a total of 778 guest rooms and suites, 13 restaurants and bars, and some 9,569 sqm of meeting space.

Raffles Singapore
After a two-year renovation, the covers came off the iconic Raffles Singapore. The historic hotel’s façade remains the same but 12 new suites have been added to the 103, which include Personality Suites bearing the name of legendary guests such as Noel Coward, Joseph Conrad, Charlie Chaplin, Elizabeth Taylor and John Wayne.

Capitol Kempinski Singapore
Another grand edifice comes in the form of the recently opened Kempinski Singapore, set in the Capitol Building, with 157 guest rooms. The event spaces include an open show kitchen and The Atelier event salon that can host up to 220 guests.

The Kempinski adds to downtown Singapore’s heritage portfolio and shares a neighbourhood with Raffles.

Sentosa
Over on Sentosa, Far East Hospitality has unveiled a trio of hotels set next to each other. Village Hotel and Outpost Hotel are both open, the former suitable for families, the latter only for adults. The Barracks is due to debut on December 1, housed in colonial buildings.

The properties share facilities, such as four thematic pools and the events centre, a former British artillery barracks that today has meetings rooms and a ballroom that can hold up to 280 participants theatre-style.

The Clan Hotel
At ITB Asia, Far East revealed details of the Clan Hotel, due to open in the second quarter of 2020 by the business district. The 324-room property will be driven by experiential travel, offering customised in-room dining, personalised precinct tours, photo walks, alleyway barber and shoe-shining services among lures that capture the neighbourhood’s charm.

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza

The event featured two international TED fellows who shared their stories on ‘Creativity and Thinking Outside the Box’. It was part of a global tour of Marriott TED Fellows Salons in 2019 with highlight events in Cape Town, Costa Rica, Rotterdam and San Francisco.

The Singapore event drew a crowd of over 200 Marriott Bonvoy members, local creative entrepreneurs, VIPs, MBA students and media.
