Singapore debuts TravelRevive

Singapore business event stakeholders work with tourism board and trade-show organisers to add safety measures and virtual formats to ITB Asia

SINGAPORE Tourism Board and ITB Asia are piloting a “prototype for safe business events” designed to pave the way future meetings and incentives in the city state.

TravelRevive has been developed by Singapore’s Alliance for Action on Enabling Safe and Innovative Visitor Experiences, which was formed by business event stakeholders to prepare safer itineraries, digital checks and other measures to minimise the risk of Covid.

TravelRevive will provide delegates with the degree of interaction they would be accustomed to in a regular trade-show setting – but in a far safer way which minimises infection risks, organisers say.

The event takes place live at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, November 25-26.

The TravelRevive prototype will also complement the two-day physical event with virtual interactions to allow a global audience to connect with regional travel businesses.

TravelRevive will also adopt touchless technology and automated registration kiosks, among other safety measures such as plexiglass shields in exhibition booths and meeting pods that serve as an additional measure to reduce droplet transmissions.

TravelRevive comes off the back of Singapore Tourism Board (STB)’s announcement in September on safe and gradual resumption of MICE events. This is in line with the “gradual and calibrated lifting” of travel restrictions and plans to set up green lanes with various countries.

Exhibitors include STB, Sentosa Development Corporation, national tourism organisations with buyers and suppliers among those attending.

In preparation for TravelRevive, the Singapore alliance is also working with relevant government agencies and industry stakeholders to deploy digital enablers to facilitate a seamless and safe visitor experience journey from pre-arrival to 14 days post event.

Martin Buck, senior vice -resident with show organiser Messe Berlin, said: “The MICE industry has been one of the key contributors to Singapore’s growth over the years, and we are proud to be working in close partnership with STB to pilot this gradual resumption of events that will kick start the industry and retain Singapore’s position as a hub for business travel and events.”

Yap Chin Siang, assistant chief executive, Singapore Tourism Board, added: “As we gradually resume MICE events safely, we are heartened to partner Messe Berlin to roll out TravelRevive as Singapore’s first pilot tradeshow and to prototype solutions for the entire end-to-end visitor experience.

“Public health and safety remain our priority and we have worked closely with the industry to create strict protocols, and reimagine what a safe and high-quality business event could look like. Together with our industry, we want to set Singapore apart as the world’s leading destination for safe, trusted and innovative business events.”
