THAILAND is preparing to welcome one of the world’s most prestigious gatherings in robotics, artificial intelligence and automation, a move that underscores the country’s ambitions to become a regional technology and innovation hub as industries embrace the AI era.
The event will be held in Bangkok in 2030 and is expected to attract around 10,000 participants from around the world, with overseas delegates accounting for about 80 per cent of attendees.
The conference, the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (IEEE ICRA 2030), will mark the first time the globally recognised event has been staged in Thailand.
The successful bid was led by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) together with Mahidol University’s Faculty of Engineering, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Thailand Chapter and the IEEE Thailand Section.
The conference will take place from June 13 to 17, 2030, at Bangkok’s Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and will bring together researchers, technology developers, business leaders, investors and policymakers from across the globe.
Organisers say the event will provide a platform for showcasing advances in robotics, AI and automation while fostering collaboration between industry, academia and government.
The bid victory was announced on Monday at a press conference in The St Regis Bangkok, highlighting what many see as a milestone in Thailand’s efforts to position itself at the forefront of emerging technologies.
Associate Professor Dr Jackrit Suthakorn, founder and executive director of the Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB) at Mahidol University, said the conference’s significance extended well beyond academia.

For Thailand, the conference offers an opportunity to reinforce its credentials as a destination for high-value technology investment while supporting government efforts to develop future industries and strengthen an innovation-led economy.
Jittanun Techasarin, director of the Conventions Department at TCEB, said winning the hosting rights reflected a broader strategy to use international business events as catalysts for economic growth and innovation.
Between late 2026 and 2029, prior to IEEE ICRA 2030, the IEEE Thailand Section will host five international conferences related to advanced technologies, all supported by TCEB.”

“Winning the bid for IEEE ICRA 2030 reinforces our strategy of attracting world-class events in high-value sectors such as robotics, automation, and advanced technologies,” Techasarin said.
According to organisers, the event is projected to generate more than THB1.06 billion (about US$31.4 million) in direct economic activity, contribute THB590.6 million in value added to the economy and create about 745 jobs.

The Federation of Thai Industries has also welcomed the bid success, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen Thailand’s position as a regional centre for technology and innovation at a time of intensifying global competition.
The federation is pursuing an “intelligent industry” strategy aimed at accelerating the adoption of AI, robotics and digital technologies across the manufacturing sector while developing a future-ready workforce.
