Former Shenyang New World EXPO general manager joins leadership team operating Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

PortraitDIANE CHEN will be joining Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (HML) as second deputy managing director to strengthen its executive leadership team.

HML is a professional private management and operating company, responsible for providing day-to-day management for Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Chen joins HKCEC from Shenyang New World EXPO where she was most recently general manager after being with the north China venue from its pre-opening stage in 2012.

AT HKCEC Chen will lead three divisions – marketing and sales, communications, human resources and administration. She will be developing and implementing business strategies to maximise use of the venue and revenue. Her role begins on July 2, when she will also join HKCEC’s executive leadership team.

While at Shenyang EXPO, Chen was credited for her ability in training nurturing and energising staff through active participation in professional development programmes. International operations and management industry standards were applied to successfully position the EXPO as a premiers exhibitions and meetings venue.

“The new appointment of a second deputy managing director will enable HML to continuously evolve and develop our proposition to ensure that the HKCEC remains competitive and a venue of choice for world-class events,” Lee-Müller said.

Chen currently serves as a board member and vice chair of the Asia Pacific Chapter of UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. She is also vice-chair of Shenyang Exhibition Industry Association, and a board member of the European Chamber’s chapter in northeast China.

She was also made a Certified Venue Executive (CVE) by the International Association of Venue Management in 2021 – the first venue industry professional in mainland China to receive the award. Chen also holds a Bachelor’s in Law from the University of Paris Panthéon- Sorbonne, Paris, and a Master’s in Business Strategy Management from the Institut des Hautes Études Economiques et Commerciales, Paris.
