Happily engage

Tools that make event experiences more dynamic, easier to plan and manage can help organisers keep ahead of the competition. Delegates at IBTM World 2015 in Barcelona enjoyed trying out some of the latest tech products at the Innovation Zone, where entrepreneurs introduced tools such as mobile translation systems, networking gadgets and project management software shortlisted from entries to the show’s Technology and Innovation Watch awards.

Gamification is a hot topic right now with entrepreneurs looking to create “fun factor” networking solutions for the ultimate boost to engagement stats. Event management platforms and apps also sit high on the wish lists for organisers seeking stress-free and transparent planning experiences. Check out MIX’s picks from the show floor.

Mash machine

Engaging attendees is more than half the battle at any event. During a demo at IBTM World 2015, delegates crowded around a tabletop board from which emanated rhythmic beats and musical effects. This was the Mash Machine board, a musical instrument that creates a social experience for delegates with music. By moving blocks around the tabletop’s surface, players can create their own songs, pit DJ battles against one another and host their own performances. The interface allows up to four players at a time with no musical experience required. Shared efforts to create a hit record will bond and break the ice between delegates.

Poken Spark
If you have a growing stack of forgotten or badly organised name cards, Poken Spark is the tool for you. Poken has introduced a small USB device that helps delegates collect and exchange digital information with just a touch. Touching two pokens against each other or to a touchpoint collects a device’s digital information and deposits it online at the pokenHUB database.

There is a lot of similar technology for collecting digital material, but Poken Spark is unique in that it can be customised for events with corporate logos and brand images, creating exposure for both organisers and sponsors. It’s also a great ice-breaker and a sustainable option for organisers working toward paperless events.

EventPilot

EventPilot prides itself as the only scalable conference app for large medical and scientific meetings. Paperless programmes come into reality with the app and attendees can build and manage their schedules and events with access to large databases. The app has offline browsing, search and interactive maps functions as well as filter options that give delegates the option to track keywords and sessions that are relevant to them. Planners can brand the app with banner messages and sponsor ads during premium slots. Additional features include attendee-to-attendee instant messaging (which has an opt-out option), an in-context session commenting service, a pre-set event hash tag and other social page integrations.

Eventcollab

Eventcollab is a project managing platform designed for events. It eliminates the hassle of sharing documents and content through multiple platforms and shows all of the components of an event’s progress on your dashboard. The platform also connects everyone involved in projects and shares files, graphics and correspondence between organisers without anything falling between the cracks.
