Live Matters Hong Kong kick starts events revival

Live matters opens at the city’s iconic waterfront, kick-starting a month of international events after mandatory mask-wearing rule lifted

AN OPEN-AIR conference heralding the revival of live events in Hong Kong took place along the city’s iconic waterfront.

Live Matters, billed as the only conference that connects Asia’s live sports, gaming, music, media, and entertainment events sectors, returns to Hong Kong in a live format after nearly three years of Covid disruptions.

Produced by Branded and presented by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, in partnership with the music festival Clockenflap, the invitation-only conference is being held at AIA Vitality Par with networking at breakout meetings taking place in the cabins of the park’s Observation Wheel.

Live Matters 2023 is aiming to reconnect all sectors of the events industry – B2B, B2C and B2B2C – in person, to discuss the opportunities of Hong Kong reopening into a post-pandemic era.

“We are thrilled to host Live Matters – live and in person – right in the centre of one of the world’s vital business and cultural hubs. What better way to reconnect and celebrate our industry? Live Matters will be kicking off an event-packed month for the city, and you can feel the excitement from everyone, Jasper Donat, CEO of organisers Branded said.

“Globally, the pandemic impacted the event industry more than most – it was the first in and last out of it. In 2019, pre-pandemic, Hong Kong hosted over 100 exhibitions with more than 1.6 million overseas overnight MICE visitors. Now, as the global live event industry bounces back, we are very excited to bring together all stakeholders – hosts and buyers – to discuss what the revival journey will look like for Hong Kong.”

Live Matters is the first in a series of world-class events hosted in Hong Kong in March including Clockenflap, the BMW Hong Kong Derby, The 51st Hong Kong Arts Festival, Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Central, World City Championship golf tournament and the Hong Kong Sevens.
