Hong Kong eases rules on events

City’s Disneyland resort opens, followed by gatherings of up to 50 resuming; conventions and trade shows set for green light in July

GATHERINGS of up to 50 people are to be permitted in Hong Kong from tomorrow as the latest stage in the regional government’s “suppress and lift” anti-pandemic strategy comes onto effect.

Conventions and trade shows have been given the green light to resume next month (July) under stricter health and social-distancing measures beginning with the Hong Kong Book Fair.

Limits on four to a table in bars and restaurants will be eased to eight with tables 1.5 metres apart. Live performances also resume but entertainers must wear masks and keep a distance from the audience.

More than 50 people may attend wedding banquets in licensed catering premises, the South China Morning Post reported the city’s Food and Health Bureau as saying.

Ocean Park has already re-opened with online pre-bookings and reduced capacity while Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is set to resume operations today under similar precautions.

It is understood that park operators are focusing on a successful resumption of public visitors before plans for the hosting of business events are considered.
