Stadium glows for HK Olympians

WITH Hong Kong athletes achieving impressive results at the Paris Olympics, the city’s highly anticipated new venue – Kai Tak Sports Park – has been paying tribute via the first large-scale LED outdoor light show on the walls of its main stadium.

Congratulatory messages of support appeared last weekend and are due to be repeated this Saturday and Sunday from 8pm to 9pm. The names of Team Hong Kong, China athletes participating in the Olympics are also being displayed on the stadium’s exterior walls.

As the future home venue for major team sports in Hong Kong, the regional government’s culture and sports officials have been eyeing the stadium to host the Asian Games and Rugby Sevens after the facility opens in 2025.

As the new stadium nears its completion, however, Kai Tak Sports Park has so far expressed a commitment to “provide ideal training and competition facilities for athletes… allowing more citizens to witness their perseverance and inspiring the next generation to pursue sports”.

The Olympics-themed lighting display began with “vibrant international-themed patterns“ followed by cheering messages for Hong Kong athletes and dynamic images depicting sports, including those in which local heroes have done well: fencing, swimming, badminton, tae kwan do, windsurfing and more.
