3 ways to experience South African luxury

1.    Traditional Luxury
South Africa is still a fairly ‘new’ destination for the Asian market, meaning that most groups want the country’s highlights on their agenda, according to Henk Graaff (right), managing director of SW Africa Destination Management

“Mostly, itineraries are kept short – between three and five days – and consist of visiting Cape Town, Sun City and a game reserve,” he says.

Accomodation-wise, Graaff says groups from Asia tend to seek out the more established hotels given their preference for Asian dining options.

A stay at The Palace of the Lost City (above) in Sun City, South Africa’s gambling and entertainment haven, exposes delegates to traditional South African luxury. The five-star resort is styled in opulent African colours and features, and offers outstanding facilities for accommodating large-scale conferences and incentive groups.

2.    Barefoot luxury
Beyond the crystal chandeliers and golden bathroom taps in five-star hotels, delegates can also experience a true back to basics experience of luxury.

This could involve camping under the stars in a private tent in the African wilderness, or indulging in African spa treatments while basking in the local landscapes.

3.    The luxury of authenticity
The authentic experiences South Africa has to offer can leave a lasting impact on visiting groups.

Delegates are able to get involved with conservation or community support programmes, such as assisting wildlife vets with animal relocations and notching. This may involve monitoring body temperature, blood pressure, respiration and keeping the animal calm and cool.

Alternatively, delegates can give back to the local communities through carefully selected community projects. These can be as meaningful as building a house for a family.
