A THREE-STAGE meetings and incentives roadshow has ended in Beijing with organisers saying China’s MICE market is steadily returning after the “long pause” brought about by Covid.
The MICE China Expo 2020 started in Shanghai on August 18 with 50 exhibitors and 200 buyers holding appointments at the Bellagio Hotel, followed by an event at Grand Hyatt Shenzhen with 20 exhibitors and buyers, culminating in 200 buyers meeting 40 exhibitors at Rosewood Beijing.
“China domestic travel and business events market is steadily bouncing back, and MICE China EXPO offered a great opportunity for MICE professionals to meet and talk face-to-face after a long pause,” Daisy Zhang, business international development manager for MICE China, said.
The event has been running for 12 editions and Zhang said the three-city tour allowed buyers and suppliers in three China’s leading cities to reduce travel time also give a chance for participants in surrounding cities to attend.
MICE China Expo 2020 followed the holding of several major business events such as auto shows and even familiarisation tours organised through hotels such as the Marriott chain in Hainan and The Sukhothai Shanghai.
China is seen as successfully having controlled the Covid-19 pandemic after imposing lockdown restrictions in Wuhan and elsewhere to contain infections.

“Amid a steady recovery of the domestic MICE market [the expo] offers a good chance to talk business in the new normal and look into the promising future,” Zhang said.
“By holding the roadshow in three stops, exhibitors are able to meet as many qualified planners and buyers as possible, as the arrangement is more flexible and easier for busy Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen and buyers based in neighbouring cities to participate.”
Among the new exhibitors this year was resort operator Club Med while suppliers for luggage brand Rimova were among the sponsors.
