Mason Hung retires as HKTB mega-events chief

THE MAN who steered Hong Kong’s mega events is retiring at the end of the month after 40 years of service with HKTB.

As general manager for event and product development at Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mason Hung introduced events such as Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, the Cyclothon, the city’s New Year countdown celebrations and “Hong Kong Neighbourhoods” tourism itineraries.

Ken Ng has taken over Hung’s role.

“These events have enriched the diverse visitor experiences that Hong Kong has to offer and resulted in numerous international accolades, successfully cementing Hong Kong as the ‘Events Capital’, said HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng.

Opinion… Red-tape killed Mega-Events Fund – but we are really to blame

“I am delighted to welcome Mr Ken Ng to the HKTB family… Ken is a seasoned management executive with extensive experience and professional knowledge in mega event planning and organisation from his many years in an internationally renowned event planning group, and has a profound understanding of the industry.

“I am confident that Ken will devise innovative strategies for the HKTB’s event and product development initiatives and will work closely with relevant trade sectors to continue to effectively promote Hong Kong’s appeal in mega events to the world,” Cheng said.
