TECH conferences are bouncing back in Hong Kong with major wins on top of returning trade shows giving a further confidence boost to the city’s business events industry.
Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has also announced that its convention ambassador scheme is being extended to mainland China for the first time with 140 leaders appointed to help attract business events to the city. HKTB introduced the Hong Kong Convention Ambassador programme in 2020 with industry leaders actively contributing to some 40 events being held in Hong Kong.
The tech conference rebound sees the inaugural EDGE Global AI & Web3 Investment Summit, which is expected to bring 10,000 visitors, heading to AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) in September with a guest lineup that includes British music superstar Robbie Williams and cricketing legend Ian Botham.

Officials say this major win follows the city’s recent hosting of several Web3 events, including FOMO Asia Genesis Conference at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and the first Asia-Pacific event for InvestHK’s WOW Summit 2023 at AWE.
Insurtech Insights Asia 2023 Conference, scheduled for the Kerry Hotel in December with an expected attendance of 3,000, is another big win. Tourism chiefs say a tech conference directed at the insurance industry highlights the city’s strong fundamentals, international business connections and government support for the insurance I&T sectors.

Medical-sector events have taken the lion’s share of the conference calendar so far this year with the 44th Asia Pacific Dental Congress this month and the 16th Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session, held alongside CardioRhythm, in September, among the conferences.
“The growing demand is providing a welcome stimulus for Hong Kong’s economy,” Kenneth Wong, HKTB’s general manager for MICE and Cruise. “Thanks to Hong Kong’s leading status across various industries and tremendous opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area, we are delighted that Hong Kong further strengthens its status as the World’s Meeting Place and remains a top choice among convention organisers.”
