From December, flyers can go direct between Guangzhou and Adelaide.
The South Australian Government has formed an agreement with China Southern Airlines that will see three weekly flights into Adelaide from December 2016.
China Southern Airlines is the second airline to launch direct flights into Adelaide this year. Back in May, Qatar Airways started a daily service.
“This presents a huge opportunity for Adelaide with the Chinese market,” said Damien Kitto, CEO, Adelaide Convention Bureau. “Over the past 18 months in particular, our focus on China has been increasing with a dedicated Mandarin speaking staff member joining our team and relationships being developed and strengthened via more regular in market visits and showcase events, such as Dreamtime.”
According to Kitto, Adelaide’s fresh food, premium wine, accessibility and lifestyle offerings have proven popular with Chinese delegates.
Incentive opportunities in Adelaide include winery visits and access to unique destinations Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln.
