The China Convention and Exhibition Society (CCES) unveiled its first industry competitiveness index at the High-level Academic Forum 2016.
This is the first time that CCES has released an index measuring the competitiveness of the convention and exhibition industry on a city-by-city basis nationwide. The new forum, which took place in Chengdu on October 21, will be held each year.
CCES standing vice president Chu Xiangyin announced the findings during the launch event. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu secured the top five places, with Chengdu also leading the Midwest China category.
More than 20 industry experts were involved in the research, using four key criteria to determine the rankings: city's overall competitiveness, overall environmental competitiveness, competitiveness in management and services, and visitors and exhibitors' satisfaction with the city's competitiveness.
Chengdu
Commenting on Chengdu’s success, the head of the Chengdu Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT-Chengdu) says the city has enhanced its industrial infrastructure over the last few years, which has boosted the development of the city's advanced manufacturing, modern service and modern urban agriculture industries.
Chengdu is home to 278 companies that rank among the Fortune Global 500, and was the fourth Chinese city to announce the 72-hour visa-free policy after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
