Buyers hear of HK super-connector role

MEETINGS and Exhibitions Hong Kong (MEHK), the business events arm of Hong Kong Tourism Board, has strengthened its outreach in southern China’s Greater Bay Area with two high‑profile engagements aimed at deepening ties with corporate buyers and reinforcing Hong Kong’s positioning as the region’s “super‑connector”.

HKTB led a 28‑strong delegation of hotels, venues and attractions to the GBA Procurement Summit 2026 in Shenzhen on January 20, followed two days later by an HKTB‑hosted networking event in Guangzhou. In total, the back‑to‑back gatherings generated more than 350 pre‑scheduled business appointments, creating opportunities for both new and renewed partnerships across the region.

The Procurement Summit, described as one of the Chinese mainland’s premier business collaboration platforms, brought together more than 200 corporate buyers, most of them from GBA cities. Participants represented a broad mix of industries, including technology, medicine, consumer goods and energy.

HKTB’s engagement continued in Guangzhou on January 22, where it convened more than 60 MICE agents from Guangzhou and neighbouring GBA cities such as Zhongshan, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai and Jiangmen. The events offered further opportunities to expand commercial links with markets emerging as increasingly important sources of meetings and incentive travel.

Marilyn Tham, HKTB General Manager of Mega Events, MICE and Cruise, said Hong Kong’s role as a conduit for international business was central to the strategy:

Hong Kong’s advantage as a bridge to the world for GBA events to expand global brand presence and regional impact,” she wrote in a social media post, urging MICE partners from across the region to make fuller use of the city’s strengths.”

Tham encouraged organisations in fast‑growing GBA markets “to leverage Hong Kong’s super‑connector advantages, unrivalled fundamentals, state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, rich experiences and comprehensive support for hosting MICE events”.

The latest push reflects Hong Kong’s focus on capturing opportunities from the expanding cross‑border business links. With Shenzhen and Guangzhou acting as major corporate hubs, and second‑tier GBA cities accelerating investment in meetings and incentive travel, HKTB wants to ensure Hong Kong remains the preferred regional base for international‑level events.

HKTB said the strong interest at this month’s events showed growing demand for deeper partnerships and highlighted the appetite among GBA corporates to collaborate with Hong Kong’s tourism and events sector.
