KAI TAK SPORT PARK ’s board has appointed Andrew Kam Min-ho as the precinct’s new chief executive, marking the next phase in Hong Kong’s multibillion‑dollar sports and entertainment precinct.

Kam takes up the role immediately in a designate capacity and will formally step into the top job on April 1, with founding CEO John Sharkey moving to the role of senior adviser after almost a decade at the helm.

The change marks the end of an era for Sharkey, who has overseen the project since inception, guiding the design, construction and operational planning with the park’s stadium one of Asia’s highest‑profile new venues.

Under Sharkey’s leadership, Kai Tak Sports Park has been transformed under venue-operator ASM Global (now Legends Global), along with the KTSP management company, into a landmark precinct integrating sport, culture, entertainment, retail and community uses.

The leadership handover places the project in the hands of one of Hong Kong’s most seasoned entertainment and tourism executives, according to reports. Kam served as managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort before joining shopping centre and entertainment group Dalian Wanda in senior roles. He later became Asia Pacific president of Haichang Ocean Park Holdings in 2022, giving him extensive experience in operating major attractions across the region.

A spokesperson for KTSP said Kam would work with Sharkey over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. They said Kam’s appointment followed a rigorous selection process aligned with KTSP’s long‑term strategic planning.

In the nine months since opening, the precinct has already made an impact on the global stage. Kai Tak Stadium ranked third worldwide in annual ticket sales, according to Pollstar, with 1.25 million tickets sold generating US$191.34 million in revenue.

KTSP said Kam’s arrival signalled a key milestone in the precinct’s evolution. “With over 30 years of leadership experience in the entertainment, tourism, and consumer sectors across international, Chinese Mainland as well as local markets, Kam brings a wealth of industry insight and operational expertise.

[Kam]’s deep knowledge of business strategy, tourism development, and large‑scale venue operations positions him to unlock the full potential of Kai Tak Sports Park and amplify its economic impact.”

A statement on behalf of KTSP’s board of directors read: “Andrew brings a unique blend of global experience and local insight that will be invaluable in leading Kai Tak Sports Park into its next chapter.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to John Sharkey for his exceptional leadership and contributions for nearly a decade. We are grateful to John for leaving behind a legacy of 21 global awards associated with Kai Tak Sports Park, which will continue to stand as a treasured icon of Hong Kong. As we welcome Andrew, the entire KTSPL team remains committed to delivering excellence and advancing Hong Kong’s future in culture, sports, and tourism.”
