MACAU’s overseas trade, investment and business events promotion body is reaching out to association and congress organisers across the world with special support packages to bring more international events to the city.
The move comes as part of a strategy by IPIM and Macau’s major integrated resorts to help ease the city’s economic reliance on the casino industry by diversifying its visitor product towards business events, helping create more community events and facilities and host more entertainment while the government nurtures new industries. The measures formed part of conditions for integrated resorts to have their licences renewed.
IPIM representatives revealed the International Conference Recruiting Initiative at a presentation to members of the International Live Events Association (ILEA) at Galaxy International Convention Centre who were on a Greater Bay Area tour organised by chapter leaders to Macau and Zhuhai.

Four key areas to be nurtured as the city diversifies its economy from a reliance on casino revenue:
1/ MICE, Culture, Sports, Commerce and Trade;
2/ Health, Biotech and Traditional Chinese Medicine
3/ Hi-tech and new technology
4/ Fintech and modern financial services
Most of these new industries will be developed with neighbouring Hengqin island, which will also provide facilities for business events.
The Macau Government Tourism Office will also be providing complimentary tickets to qualifying overseas MICE groups arriving at Hong Kong International for transport to bring them to Macau. The offer is available until August 31.
Support is also being made available by IPIM to organisers who have confirmed the holding of an event or exhibition in Macau, or have a high chance of their event taking place.

Conferences must involve an overnight stay and be recognised as an accredited international meeting. The conference must have at least 50 delegates with 20 per cent or more being non-Macau residents.
Macau’s integrated resorts will provide meeting packages, hotels accommodation, F&B and transport under the IPIM initiative.
