MITEC hosts 4,500 in Malaysia first

Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre holds country’s first large business event under Covid-19 with strict safety protocols, social distancing and other safety measures

ROWS of tables in the top picture and an accompanying video shows how thousands of delegates sat in pairs safely positioned across the space of four halls with dividers opened at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.  Some 3,500 were placed in Malaysia’s largest pillarless exhibition hall at 12,960 sqm on level three of MITEC, while 1,00o more viewed the event on screen in 3,230 sqm hall on level two of the venue.

The Kongress Negara 2020 was also Malaysia’s first major business event during the country’s Covid-19 Recovery Movement Control Order.

Attendees included Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, senior ministers, dignitaries and participants from Penggerak Komuniti Negara, the NGO that organised the event.

The milestone event was held in a carefully managed environment with stringent safety and security protocols in line with national security standard operating procedures.

Health registrations was done through the MySejahtera app and mask-wearing was made mandatory in public areas along with social distancing measures.

“We have rigorous health and safety measures, delegate management system, as well as on-site communication including ‘mobile human safety reminders’ encouraging strict adherence and the provision of guidance and compliance,” said Gunther Beissel, MITEC chief executive.

Ready-to-eat packed meals were served to each attendee at their respective seats during lunch and refreshment breaks with pre-wrapped cutlery sets to provide a safe and controlled catering system for the wellbeing of attendees and our team members.

“Successful hosting of such a mass gathering signals a start to rebuilding public confidence in the meetings and events industry and we are proud to have delivered the event seamlessly within a safe, and structured manner,” Gunther said.

“We are excited to see business events rebound and thrilled to be hosting more major events and exhibitions in a safe, organised, and secure environment in accordance with the SOPs that have been endorsed by the Malaysian government.”
