SINGAPORE authorities have established regulations to enable essential business travel between the city state and China in a bid to gradually encourage trade as Covid-19 comes under control.
The Singapore-China ‘fast-lane” agreement will start on June 8 and will see business travellers on both sides exempt from strict quarantine periods, the Straits Times reported.
Travellers must agree to be tested and pay for the procedure and bear any hospital fees if they are found to be contaminated. A company or government entity sponsoring the trip must also apply for official approval on behalf of the travellers.

Applications for the scheme open on Monday for routes between Singapore and six destinations in China: Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
On landing in Singapore, visitors must undergo a swab test and remain isolated at a non-residential address until the test result is known.

“This is part of Singapore’s gradual reopening of our borders for Singaporeans and residents to conduct essential activities overseas and to allow safe travel for foreigners entering Singapore in limited numbers, with the necessary safeguards in place to ensure public health considerations are addressed,” government officials said.
Similar measures are being discussed with other countries including South Korea, New Zealand and Malaysia, the Times reported.
