Art museum joins Yokohama portfolio

EXTENSIVE renovations at Yokohama Museum of Art will enable the landmark to be available to international planners seeking a unique venue in the Japanese port city.

The museum’s reopening coincides with the Yokohama Triennale, an international exhibition that began in March, featuring contemporary artists whose work will be exhibited across the city until June 9.

Yokohama Convention Bureau (YCVB) said in a statement: “With the museum firmly back on the map as Yokohama’s leading artistic venue, YCVB plans to showcase the space by holding innovative events there.

“The Yokohama Museum of Art’s striking modernist architecture and bold, open galleries provide the perfect backdrop for any event.”

The museum, with its 14,000-plus works of art and distinctive architecture, joins YCVB’s range of “iconic landmarks” in Yokohama that are considered “hidden gems” and available for private hire for MICE events. These include Konica Minolta Planetaria Yokohama, the historic Hotel New Grand, the traditional Japanese-style Sankeien Garden and waterfront venue The Wharf House Yamashita Koen.
