6,000 Baptists heading to Brisbane

City’s premier business event venue secures two US-headquartered conventions

MORE than 8,000 delegates are expected in Brisbane after two United States-based conventions were secured.

Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the Convention of Zonta International 2024 and Baptist World Congress 2025. Both events are expected to deliver A$35 million in economic contribution to the Queensland economy and 58,000 room nights to boost Brisbane’s hotel and accommodation sector.

The venue teamed up with Tourism AustraliaTourism & Events Queensland and the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, to secure these first-time events for Brisbane and Queensland.

Zonta International has more than 1,100 clubs with over 27,000 members in 64 countries. It advocates women’s rights, poverty alleviation and awareness of climate change among other issues.

Organisers of the Baptist World Congress are expecting more than 6,000 delegates to attend the Brisbane event, with more than 5,000 of those coming from overseas.

“These are but two of 77 conventions confirmed for BCEC during 2021, ensuring a strong pipeline of Business Events into the future for Brisbane and Queensland and boosting the city’s appeal as a destination leading into the Brisbane 2032 Olympics,” said Bob O’Keefe the centre’s chief executive.
