Private dining goes deep in Jeff’s Cellar

DEEP within the limestone caves of The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, Malaysia, has emerged an upgraded – or reimagined – private dining area available for corporate groups and small  events.

Jeff’s Cellar – named after Jeffrey Cheah, founder and chairman of Sunway Group – now features a dedicated space suitable for events with at least 15 guests. Cheah, who was born in Ipoh, has emphasised the use of sustainable development and local materials in the redesign.

This addition is part of a broader transformation marking the 15th anniversary of The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat. The updated layout includes a new bar and lounge, a wine cellar, and enhancements to lighting and sound systems. The redesign was led by interior designer Nelson Yong and Sunway Design.

Executive Chef Lee Choon Boon has introduced three tasting menus that incorporate both local and imported ingredients. The restaurant continues to operate daily from 6pm to 11pm, with reservations required.

The atmospheric Jeff’s Cellar is set within 260 million-year-old atmospheric limestone caves with stalactites, stalagmites and rippling streams nearby. A spokesperson says the venue’s upgrading has given it an “an elegant transformation that will position it at the pinnacle of gastronomy – not only in Malaysia, but anywhere in the world”.
