LOCAL talent across Sarawak’s cities is being tapped to bring more business events to the East Malaysia state on Borneo.
A group of 29 business event professionals in the northern city of Miri recently graduated from the Business Events Accelerator Programme (BEAP), which is aimed at addressing the growing demand for future-ready professionals to strengthen service delivery and raise industry standards.
BEAP is co-organised by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) and the Miri Business Events Committee in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) Sarawak Chapter,
The Miri edition of the programme was held at the city’s Mercure hotel, July 14-16, and was the first of two BEAP sessions scheduled this year.
Participants were trained across the full event lifecycle, including concept development, financial planning, on-site delivery and post-event evaluation. The course also examined how artificial intelligence can be applied to improve efficiency and innovation in business events.
The initiative comes as Sarawak continues to invest in its business events sector and broaden participation beyond its urban centres such as Miri, a major hub in Borneo for Malaysian’s oil and gas industry.

The programme also supports MACEOS’ efforts to expand professional development opportunities for business events practitioners across Malaysia.

According to BESarawak, capacity-building initiatives such as BEAP will help local businesses and event professionals develop the skills needed to support Sarawak’s growing business events industry, particularly as planned regional routes by AirBorneo improve connectivity.
