Thailand unveils exhibitors cash boost

Government agrees US$3bn in business support measures while TCEB adds measures to help sustain exhibition industry

SUPPORT for the exhibitions industry in Thailand is being given a boost as part of more than US$3 billion in government support for companies struggling as the Covid-19 pandemic forces the suspension of business.

The announcement by the Thai government comes as TCEB (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau) rolls out a new project focusing on digital-based business event services to help MICE companies run events online and train staff using virtual platforms.

“Thailand Extra Exhibition Plus” – TCEB’s own package for the exhibition sector – is aimed at small- to medium-sized enterprises.

The overall Government support for businesses impacted by Covid-19 includes access to loans and low-interest credit along with tax-easing measures for companies and employees such as extended deadlines and exemption from income duty.

TCEB’s Thailand Extra Exhibition Plus scheme complements the government support by helping exhibition industry stakeholders “to sustain core trade shows in Thailand”.

“We at TCEB hope to get the industry in Thailand moving again,” said a spokesman for the bureau.

Exhibition Plus forms part of US$1 million set aside for “immediate-term” relief for exhibition companies and stakeholders and $14 million planned for the first phase of industry recovery.

“Our thoughts continue to be with those who are going through very tough times,” Nichipa Yoswee, senior VP for business at TCEB said. “TCEB has spoken with exhibition industry stakeholders and agreed to join hand-in-hand stepping forward for the next chapter of the Thai exhibition industry, invigorating our readiness in preparation to ensure Thailand presents you with an optimal platform for you exhibitions when the markets return.”
