Seoul strives for incentive gains with group experience deals

Seoul Convention Bureau has launched a series of packages highlighting cultural experiences to groups in an attempt to make further gains with the international incentive market.

The bureau is offering the programmes and additional financial subsidies to groups staying at least two consecutive nights in Seoul and at least 100 total nights altogether.

Experience offerings
The five programmes on offer involve:

  • Walking on the urban sky park of Seoullo 7017
  • Bicycle riding on the Han River
  • Trekking on the Seoul City Wall (main picture)
  • Traditional culture programmes such as hanbok wearing and traditional instrument lessons, offered by the Seoul MICE Alliance
  • K-Pop dance lesson and makeover

Alternatively, groups can propose an experience programme through a local travel agency for consideration of support.

Jae Yong Kim, director of Seoul’s Tourism Policy Division says: “Hallyu and overall interest in Korean culture is continuing to attract visitors to Seoul and particularly from Southeast Asia which makes up 35 per cent of inbound corporate and incentive groups. Seoul will continue to develop unique experience programmes for them to ensure their time is memorable.”

Earlier this month, a Singaporean insurance group brought 100 incentive qualifiers to Seoul to engage in an ‘Amazing Race’ game around the capital. Divided into smaller groups, participants were given tasks including recreating the “Train to Busan” movie poster at Seoul Station, striking K-Pop idol poses at Namdaemun, local beer tasting, and trying out the street food of Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong streets.

Another group from Indonesia is due to experience the Han River bike-riding package later this month. Seoul’s mayor Park Won Soon plans to bike with the delegation.
