Hong Kong Tourism Board opens latest stage of cash help for unique activities that woo visitors and generate positive overseas media coverage

NON-PROFIT organisations and associations registered with the Hong Kong Government are being invited to apply for funding to create unique local activities that would appeal to an overseas audience.

Hong Kong Tourism Board has opened the sixth round of the Pilot Scheme for Characteristic Local Tourism Events to support tourism activities with the potential to generate good branding for Hong Kong.

Under the scheme, funding will be provided for event staging, marketing and promotion for visitor-targeted events related to arts, culture, festivals, dining and sports, that are uniquely Hong Kong.

A Pilot Scheme Briefing Session will be held on December 15 with applications submitted by January 29, 2021.

The scheme is aimed at “diversifying the city’s tourism product offerings; attracting local and overseas media coverage; increasing visitor arrivals; and enhancing visitors’ travel experience in Hong Kong”, HKTB said in a message to partners.

Applicants must be Hong Kong-registered non-profit organisations, which also includes sports or NGO, arts association or chamber of commerce.

Projects should be based on arts, culture, dining, sports event or festival in Hong Kong lasting one or more days from July 1, 2021 to June, 30, 2022.

Event proposals should also be aimed at attracting an onsite attendance of at least 5,000 of which 10 per cent of whom are non-local visitors. Total event costs should be at least HK$2 million excluding sponsorship.
