’Carbon Neutrality 4 All‘ targets Thai events

BUSINESSES working in Thailand’s conferences, incentive and business events will have the chance to trial a new carbon-trading platform being launched by an alliance of five organisations.

The “Carbon Neutrality 4 All”  efforts announced by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) are aimed at promoting sustainable events with local communities also expected to benefit.

Individual travellers have already trialed the carbon-trading platform with “MICE entrepreneurs” expected to test the platform by the end of the year.

The platform is designed to trade small- to medium-sized batches of carbon offsets.

The organisations backing the platform are the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, the owner of the Carbon Neutrality 4 All project; The Central Group, which funds the platform; the Ministry of Interior, which brings carbon credit for trade on the platform; TCEB and Tourism Authority of Thailand are promoting the platform among their network of their industry players.

The five signed an MoU recently during the project’s soft launch in Bangkok to collaborate and make a joint effort in driving Thailand towards net zero.

Carbon Neutrality 4 All is designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs wishing to source premium quality carbon credit from carbon dioxide and methane reduction program, TCEB said.

The platform features a CERO application for carbon footprint calculation which can be connected to a venue’s energy-control system. Connection with a phone’s AI will help make data collection for carbon footprint calculation easier for event organisers.

Event attendees can also use the Green Activities feature while attending events to monitor their carbon footprint from travel and food consumption.

The platform is developed by Vekin (Thailand), the government-sanctioned body specialising in engineering decarbonisation and carbon tokenisation.

When event organisers offset their carbon emission on the platform, they are contributing to revenue streams for local communities undertaking household waste management projects. Accumulated points can be used for discount on the purchase of products and services in participating retail stores.

Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, said TCEB’s collaboration in the “Carbon Neutrality 4 All” platform project is part of the bureau’s “Partnership for Business Success” and “Go Sustainability” strategies for the Thai MICE industry.

TCEB would promote the use of the carbon credit trading platform among Thai MICE operators following a few years’ capacity building on carbon avoidance calculation for the industry in Thailand. Using the platform can be a proven record of how Thai MICE industry can reduce environmental negative impact and generate positive economic and social impacts for local communities.
