Shangri-La Opens Private Runway in the Maldives

THE MALDIVES The Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa now boasts it’s own private executive airport terminal, located at Gan International Airport in Addu Atoll.

As the most southern atoll in the Maldives, Addu Atoll has remained relatively undeveloped and the Shangri-La’s airport gives unique access to this exclusive location. Previously, the only way to access the Addu Atoll was by sea-plane or boat.

The new terminal means that faster jet connections can now be made between the atoll and Malé International Airport. With two lounges and a VIP room for guests arriving by private jet, the terminal is to be used exclusively by the hotel’s guests – including those on commercial flights – and is located just five minutes from resort by speedboat transfer. This exclusive new connection means the resort is ideal for discreet corporate retreats and as a top tier incentive destination.

A nine-hole golf course, the only golf facility in the Maldives, is one of the resort’s stand-out features. Also available is a private yacht and the hotel also offers guided bicycle tours, water sports and big game fishing. As part of the launch, the Shangri-La is offering a new “Private Jet Experience”. The package includes welcome champagne, a dedicated butler, dolphin cruise, daily massage, personal mobile phones and a bespoke dining experience at a secret location.

The Villingili Resort and Spa is the Shangri-La’s only location in the Southern hemisphere. With 132 villas and two presidential suites, the hotel can cater for large groups. Five restaurants provide catering services round the clock whilst the largest outdoor pavilion can host up to 144 people at any one time.
