Visit Malaysia 2020 scrapped

Measures taken to curtail Covid-19 after MyCEB announces 16 business event postponements and the cancellation AIPC 2020

MALAYSIA is cancelling its international tourism campaign while imposing a ban on large gatherings and travel until the end of March.

The measures follow Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) announcement of postponed conferences and exhibitions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

MyCEB is requesting all its industry partners to review marketing campaign materials and replace VM2020 branding with the Malaysia Truly Asia logo.

Partners area also advised to take advantage of the stimulus package offered by the Malaysia Government.

“Let’s together pray for the COVID-19 situation to subside soon, and in the meantime, I would like to urge all industry players to adhere to MOTAC and MOH guidelines and procedures in curbing the virus from further spreading,” said Abdul Khani, chief executive of MyCEB.

“We shall remain strong and begin to relook at our next strategy in making Malaysia a preferred business event destination as soon as the industry rebound.”

The list of 17 events include one cancellation – AIPC 2020, the annual conference organised by the International Association of Congress Centres. The 16 events has been pushed back to dates between June and late November.

MyCEB says the postponements follow government guidelines issued to counteract the spread of the coronavirus outbreak, which has been categorised as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

“Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) would like to take precautions on the postponement and cancellation of business events following the Covid-19 pandemic and the overall impact it would have on the following business event,” MyCEB said in a statement.

“This is in line with the safety guidelines by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia as MyCEB is actively playing its role in creating efforts, especially through the business events community.”
