Emergency management at events is among the topics that will be discussed by leading security experts from 16 countries at a conference in Macau.
The Asia Emergency Management Conference (AEMC) and Expo, at The Venetian in Macau, May 10-12, is aimed at increasing the level of knowledge among businesses and organisations to counter safety risks in cities across Asia Pacific as urbanisation increases.
Event organiser Wilson Tong, of Vertical Expo, says AEMC 2016 is the first event of its type in the region to highlight emergency management and risk prevention at events.
“Knowledge and networks of emergency mangement expertise are essential to event planners because events gather people,” Tong said. “AEMC has gathered 33 heavyweight professionals from 16 countries who will be sharing their professional experience and know-how through presentations, panel discussions or workshops.”
Topics covered will range from “Lessons Learned from MH370 and MH17”, by Fuad Sharuji, a former crisis director for Malaysia Airlines, and a panel session on “Practical Business Continuity Management – The Journey to BCM Maturity”, to “Managing Rumours and Misinformation: Lessons from Kenya, Burma and beyond”, by Christopher Tuckwood, The Sentinel Project, and “Building a Crisis Response Capacity”, by Pauline Parsons, former Air New Zealand emergency planning manager.
Workshop sessions will include, “You’re a Crisis Management Team. Here’s Your Crisis”, and “Event Security – A Culture of Responsible Planning Tolls for Guest Security”.
AEMC 2016 is also a key event for Macau as Ipim, the government’s trade and promotion investment institute, raises the profile of the city as a destination for international business events and conferences.
