Macau event planners roll out educational seminars

A SERIES of education activities with the potential for people working in the Macau events industry to gain recognised certificates from high-level associations has been unveiled.

Bruno Simões, secretary of the Macau Meetings, Incentives and Special Events Association (MISE), announced the programme at MGM Cotai where a tour and networking event was attended by around 100 people involved in the local industry.

A seminar on becoming a CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) is scheduled for May 9 at the Venetian Macao and will cover application requirements, steps to towards qualifying CMP and study tips.

“CMP is the most prestigious and recognised certificate in the MICE industry. and for that reason Macau Meetings, Incentives and Special Events Association is focused on this initiative,” says Simões.

He said the CMP was “powered by the Events Industry Council, a non-profit organisation that gathers thousands of professionals around the world”.

MISE has also teamed up with IAPCO ((International Association of Professional Congress Organisers) to stage a bespoke seminar in Macau aimed at raising standards of service among members and other sectors of the meetings industry.

Senior members of SITE (Society of Incentive Travel Excellence) are also set to return to Macau to run a two-day seminar that leads to an entery-level certificate. Topics covered include creating incentive travel programmes and the value of non-cash awards.

“In 2018, MISE will be focused on educational programmes for MICE professionals… certified by the most important entities such as Events Industry Council, IAPCO and SITE.

“These are the most internationally recognised organisations to provide education and certification in their areas,” Simões said.
