Hong Kong Maritime Museum launches largest retrospective

The Hong Kong Maritime Museum has launched a new display called Made in Hong Kong: Our City. Our Stories, the museum’s largest special exhibition to date and a retrospective tribute to Hong Kong’s history over the past 150 years.

More than 100 stories have been curated for the exhibit, which “narrates Hong Kong’s transformation from a fishing village to an international financial centre”, says Ian Shiu, the museum’s chairman. The exhibit has also earmarked displays for Hollywood icons such as Chow Yun-fat and rising designer Kay Kwok, and offers accounts of local tech innovators and artists.

Housed in the Special Exhibitions and Events Gallery, the exhibit will run between March and September and has been divided into three sections that outline the city’s growth through its landscape, trade and people. The exhibition venue is available for private hire with space for 250 in a standing reception. Two other venues are available at the museum – the Harbour Viewing Gallery and the Permanent Exhibitions Galleries – which can host between 100 and 500 for cocktails.

The Hong Kong Maritime Museum is located at Pier 8, Central.
