Bob Guy cruises to top honours at Seatrade

DMC consultant turned cruise industry specialist Bob Guy has been honoured with an award at the Seatrade Cruise Asia Gala Dinner in Busan, Korea.

Guy received the Rama Rebbapragada Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Cruise Industry in Asia at the dinner, which formed part of Seatrade Cruise Asia, taking place from May 12-13, at the Busan Port International Cruise Terminal. Seatrade Cruise Asia is an annual cruise industry event focused on Asia and comprised of an exhibition, conference, networking and travel agent training.

Guy is executive director and advisor to both Destination Asia Singapore and Destination Asia Malaysia. He has several decades of experience in travel industry operations in North America, Australia and Asia, and is an experienced DMC, meeting and event planner and cruise industry leader.

The award was presented by Andrew Williams, general manager of Seatrade, in recognition of Guy’s long and outstanding engagement within the cruise industry in Asia.

Zinan Liu, president of North Apac and China at Royal Caribbean International, and a keynote speaker at the event, said of Guy: “He has been involved with cruising since its absolute beginning in Asia. His experience with the industry and his encyclopaedic knowledge of the geography of Asia made him a natural point of contact for the cruise line leaders who first came to Asia at that time, such as Adam Goldstein, Arne Bakkelund, Peter Cox, Stein Kruse and Bruce Krumrine, and of course the man whom this award is named after, Rama Rebbapragada.”

Guy said: “It is a great honor to receive this award, given in the name of Rama Rebbapragada, a cruise industry leader that I knew well and worked with closely. We worked together to grow cruise tourism in the Asia Pacific region. I remember Rama fondly and will strive to continue this work in his name.”
