Wee Min Ong, vice-president of sales and MICE at Marina Bay Sands, has been named to the 2026 Events Industry Council (EIC) Hall of Leaders,.
The recognition places the Singapore executive alongside a select group of international figures whose careers have helped shape the global meetings, conventions, exhibitions, hospitality and incentive travel sectors.
The EIC Hall of Leaders programme, now in its 41st year, is regarded as a lifetime achievement award for individuals who have made a lasting contribution to international business events.
More than 150 industry leaders have been inducted since its launch in 1985. This year’s cohort includes senior executives from Destination DC, Freeman, Wonderful Copenhagen and Events In & Out.
For Ong, the accolade represents the latest milestone in a career spanning more than a quarter of a century in business events. Organisations such as ICCA have noted how he has played a central role in strengthening both Marina Bay Sands’ position as a leading convention venue and Singapore’s reputation as a global meetings destination.
Ong joined Marina Bay Sands in 2012 after more than a decade at Suntec Singapore, where he rose to become chief commercial officer. At Marina Bay Sands, he has overseen sales and MICE operations while leading the Sands Expo & Convention Centre through a period of significant growth and international recognition.
In a profile on the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International site, Ong’s responsibilities have ranged from attracting major international conventions and trade exhibitions to developing new event formats and customer engagement models.
Ong became the first Asian meetings professional appointed to the board of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), and he has also been active with the Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS), helping to advance professional training and accreditation standards for event professionals across Singapore and the wider region.

His leadership was particularly visible during the pandemic, when Marina Bay Sands accelerated investment in hybrid event infrastructure and broadcast facilities as organisers sought alternatives to traditional face-to-face gatherings. Under his direction, the venue expanded its hybrid capabilities and worked with industry stakeholders to support the return of physical events as restrictions eased.
The Hall of Leaders recognition follows a series of other global honours. In 2025, Ong received the ICCA Global Community Impact Award, which recognised his contribution to developing transformative and sustainable business events and his role in positioning Singapore as a leading destination for international meetings. The International Congress and Convention Association cited his commitment to community impact, innovation and industry development.
According to the EIC, the Hall of Leaders award honours individuals who have “unequivocally shaped the global business events industry”. EIC president and chief executive Amy Calvert said this year’s inductees reflected the diversity of talent helping to define the future of the international events community.
