KAI TAK Sports Park officially opened with a star-studded extravaganza that ushers in a new era for sports and entertainment in Hong Kong.
Performances at the Grand Opening featured athletes across from Hong Kong and mainland China – including Olympians – showcasing sports such as badminton, table tennis and fencing. They were joined by celebrities from film, television, and music.

The ceremony began in the park’s 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium with drumbeats and dances in a dramatic debut for “Hong Kong’s Home Venue”. The event concluded with a choral performance heralding a new chapter for how Hong Kong’s sports, entertainment and event offerings.
“With the completion and opening of Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong is now better positioned to actively attract large-scale international events, drawing more visitors and investments, and injecting new vitality into the development of the sports and performing arts culture industries,” said John Sharkey, CEO of Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP).
We will make full use of the park’s advanced sports facilities, which meet international standards, to assist the Hong Kong Government in realising its vision of an international sports platform. This will help develop the sports industry’s home court economy and welcome entertainment events to shine on the international stage at Kai Tak.”
In addition to performances inside the venue, an LED light show illuminated the stadium’s exterior walls with slogans such as “Raising the Game”. Visible from both sides of Victoria Harbour, the light show and pyrotechnics symbolised KTSP’s commitment to creating opportunities for Hong Kong.
The Grand Opening also marked the beginning of “Hong Kong Super March” as the city is positioned as “Asia’s Events Capital”. Events throughout the month include the World Snooker Grand Prix 2025, the Kai Tak Sports Initiative – Kai Tak Run, and the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025.

In November, China’s 15th National Games will feature competitions in Hong Kong for the first time with four events at KTSP. The 12th National Disabled Persons’ Games and the 9th Special Olympics National Games will also have events at the Sports Park.
The 28-hectare KTSP was built on a section of the old Hong Kong airport site. The stadium, with a retractable roof, is the main component alongside an indoor sports centre with a capacity of 10,000 seats, and an outdoor track and field facility with 5,000 seats. Retail and harbourfront dining spaces, along with open areas for events and leisure, surround the stadium.
Partnerships have been established with local and international sponsors including HSBC as premier founding partner with CTF Life, Cathay, Coca-Cola, Hongkong Telecom and Marriott Bonvoy as founding partners.
