Sivakumar takes up MyCEB chair

MALAYSIA’s former minister of human resources has been brought in as chairman of the country’s convention bureau with a mission to “lead and chart a new direction” for MyCEB.

The appointment of YB V. Sivakumar follows the sudden resignation last month of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau chief executive Azman Tambi Chik who had held the post for less than a year.

Tan Mei Phing was made acting CEO until a new chief executive was found for MyCEB, according to a bureau spokesperson.

“This appointment is a significant trust placed in [Sivakumar] by the Madani government, and he is deeply grateful for the confidence entrusted to him to lead and chart a new direction for MyCEB,” read a statement issued by the bureau referring to the Malaysia Madani policy frameworks led by Prime Minister Amwar Ibrahim.

“We are thrilled to have YB V. Sivakumar joining us at this pivotal juncture.,” said Tan, the acting CEO. “His vision and leadership will undoubtedly be a significant asset as we continue to champion Malaysia as a leading destination for business events. With his guidance, we are confident that MyCEB will achieve new milestones and continue to drive significant economic contributions to the country.”

Questions emailed to MyCEB by MIX regarding the reasons for Chik’s resignation were unanswered at the time of this article going live on September 19.

The MyCEB statement said Sivakumar was committed to exploring new opportunities to drive MyCEB’s progress. “His focus includes strengthening Malaysia’s position as a premier destination for international business events, encouraging innovation by integrating the latest technology into event organisation, promoting our nation as a sustainable and eco-friendly destination for global business events, and developing local talent in staging Malaysia’s events scene,” the statement read.
