ORGANISERS of the World Economic Forum are swapping the snow-frosted Swiss town of Davos for the tropical climes of Singapore next May for the annual meeting of global power brokers.
The move was announced by the WEF this week amid uncertainty surrounding the Covd-19 pandemic and progress being made in Singapore to host hybrid meetings under safety protocols and the virus coming under control in the city state.
Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry said the decision reflected confidence in the country’s management of the pandemic and will boost the local business event and conference industry.
The annual forum sees leaders from business, government and society gather in Davos to discuss challenges facing the world. The 2021 Special Annual Meeting, May 13-16, will be the first time the event has been held outside Switzerland.
It is due to return to Davos in 2022.
The event, known as Davos or The Forum, has seen challenges to the established order made by environmental campaigners as teenager Greta Thunberg and others in moves said to have won approval from WEF founder Klaus Schwab.
