Sydney wins 10,000-strong Amway China mega-incentive

More than 10,000 delegates from direct selling company Amway China are set to descend on Sydney where the Amway China Leadership Seminar will take place in March 2017.

CEO of Business Events Sydney (BESydney) Lyn Lewis Smith said that Business Events Sydney had trumped fierce international competition in winning the bid.

“BESydney has injected A$213 million into the economy by securing and delivering more than 45,000 Asian incentive delegates into New South Wales over the past three years. And, we’ve experienced a 20 per cent year-on-year growth in this sector in NSW over the past decade.”

She adds, “Last year, 858,500 Chinese tourists arrived in Australia, spending more than $5 billion, and many came to attend a business event or join an incentive program.”

New South Wales Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres highlighted the region’s popularity among Chinese companies.

“I’m pleased Amway China has chosen NSW again after their 2005 and 2011 Sydney events were amongst the most successful they’ve ever held anywhere in the world,” Mr Ayres said.

Associate Director of Special Events for Amway China Charming Cao said that Sydney’s new convention centre, due to open late 2016, was a driver to host the seminar in Sydney.

“We aim to motivate our Amway China team to reach and exceed their sales targets, knowing that their reward will be an exciting trip to the always beautiful and thrilling city of Sydney.

“Our delegates will experience the modern, world-class facilities of the newly-opened ICC Sydney and an exciting, appealing program of activities,” said Cao.

The Amway China Leadership Seminar will be the ICC Sydney’s first major incentive event in 2017, said CEO of ICC Sydney Geoff Donaghy. Lewis-Smith confirmed that incentive delegates spend up to 6.5 times more than the average leisure tourist. BESydney has contributed over A$1 billion (US$731m) to the New South Wales economy since 2010.
