SARAWAK’s business events industry wrapped up 2022 on a high note after securing 100 business events for 2023 and beyond – exceeding the initial target of 90, figures from the Malaysian Borneo state’s convention bureau show.
The 100 business events are worth an estimated MYR359 million about (US$81m) in total economic impact, a Business Events Sarawak spokesman said. The events are expected to create more than 28,000 employment opportunities for local communities in Sarawak.
In 2022, Sarawak hosted 93 homegrown, national and international business events worth a total economic impact of MYR216.3 million. Direct delegate expenditure accounted for RM117.6 million in income; RM13 million in tax revenue and at least 17,169 jobs.
