ADVENTURE travel organisers will be heading to Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido in September for the first summit of its type in Asia.
The Adventure Travel Trade Association has announced that the Adventure Travel World Summit will take place near Lake Shikotsu in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, September 20-23.
Teambuilding and other activities are planned on and around the lake along with other experiences featuring Hokkaido’s wilderness and wildlife.
The business part of ATWS comes in the form of Marketplace featuring between 80 to 100 suppliers of accommodation, tours and other adventure travel services.
Organisers say a virtual summit will be held if Covid travel restrictions remain in force.
“This highly anticipated event will be the first ATWS held on the Asian continent, signalling Japan’s importance as a major player in adventure tours, and the growing global opportunities for adventure travel,” the association said in December when announcing the choice of Hokkaido.
