“Australia is staking a claim to business events in China”, was the message delivered to over 100 buyers at the Business Events Australia North Asia Showcase held in Moganshan, near Hangzhou from April 19 to 21.
This year’s event was the largest to date, bringing together 21 partners from across all major Australian cities, their convention bureaux and specialist business events partners, with representatives from the Northern Territory and Gold Coast.
Attending for the first time was the A$1.1 billion International Convention Centre Sydney which has secured 23 international conventions, of which many are clients of the centre’s sister venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The ICC will exhibit again at the South East Road Show in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore from May 3 to 7.
General manager of Business Events Australia, Penny Lion says the showcase aims to position Australia as first choice for Chinese buyers.
“Australia is really leading the way when it comes to inspiring key influencers and decision makers in the China market on how the country can deliver successful business outcomes with its diverse offerings of business events destinations, facilities and product experiences.”
“The high level of investment in infrastructure, product and services in Australia right now is reflected in the variety of businesses joining us for this year’s Showcase,” she added.
Developments highlighted include the A$400 million expansion of the Adelaide Convention Centre, which, scheduled for completion in 2017, will offer a plenary capacity of 3,500. Venue openings across the Gold Coast, Canberra, and Perth were announced as well as new corporate products from BridgeClimb Sydney and direct flights to Alice Springs from Sydney and from Singapore to Cairns.
