SMX expands as Philippines gears up for business events

A fifth venue is joining the Philippine SMX convention centre brand this week as the country gears up for Visit Philippines Year 2015 with destinations being marketed to organisers of long-haul meetings, incentives, conference and event organisers.

SMX Bacolod, on the central island of Visayas, will join the company’s portfolio of facilities in Manila, Taguig, Davao and Cebu – cities that have daily direct flight links with Hong Kong and Singapore.

The new centre will offer 8,218sqm of event space, including a pre-function lobby, six meeting rooms between 74 and 207sqm and three function rooms measuring 3,544 sqm. The centre is located on the third level of the SM City Bacolod shopping centre, near to the city’s international port and CBD.

Western Visayas has recently made moves to attract more business events to the region, and greater facilities are now necessary says Maria Montessa Q. Florendo, marketing and communications officer for SMX.

“Growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industries in the region have meant that Bacolod needs a world-class venue for events – the development of the SMX Convention Center is timely,” says Florendo.

The Park Inn by Radisson is primed to accommodate delegates in the new Bacolod facility until a new partner hotel is announced for the development.

Regional events lined up for the new centre include Bacolod Trade Expo and Conference from October 17-19, which is linked to the city’s “Masskara” festival. Medical associations, local government organisations and trade bodies are also scheduled to hold events.
