FOLLOWING a series of successful book drives across Sarawak, Business Events Sarawak has donated 1,000 books to a primary school in the Malaysian state on Borneo.
The donation is part of “Books Build Legacy” – BESarawak’s state-level initiative which aims to bridge the gap in educational resources and empower children in rural Sarawak.
A handover event (above) highlighted the importance of community development and the positive impact of accessible materials for young learners.
“The donations to SK Batu Bungan were collected from three events this year, namely the Singapore Association for Continuing Education team building and retreat, ‘Connect. Play. Donate’ industry gathering in Kuching and the Sarawak Invitational Interteam Pickleball Challenge 2024 in Miri,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, who presented the books.
“There is very good progress with this programme and hopefully inspiring to other organisations looking to make a difference.”
Michelle Lee, Senior Assistant of Students’ Affairs at Batu Bungan Primary School, said: “With only a population of less than 70 pupils, these books will become an important part of their educational journey. We can expect more pupils to take up reading as a new hobby in and outside school.
“Teachers are always looking to enhance our pupils’ learning experiences and academic growth. We appreciate the business events community sharing their generosity with the pupils.”
