LANGKAWI will once again be the focus of world media and sports enthusiasts when it hosts the IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi on October 26.
Supported by Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the event will be held in Malaysia for the sixth time.
Langkawi, ranked one of the top 10 most popular islands in the world, will offer participants a varied and challenging racecourse through lush tropical rainforests with wet, hilly and demanding terrain unlike any other.
MyCEB gathered the combined sporting strengths of Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Department of Statistics Malaysia and corporates forms teams and wear MyCEB armbands throughout the challenging event.
“Last year, around 5,800 attendees gathered for Ironman Langkawi bringing in around RM 16.5 million in tourist expenditure,” Zulkefli Hj Sharif, chief executive officer of MyCEB.
“This year, Ironman Langkawi is forecast to bring in an estimated RM20.9 million in tourist expenditure to the country, he said.
Zulkefli presented the armbands to teams representatives at the MyCEB office in Kuala Lumpur.
As part of the Beijing-headquartered Wanda Sports Group, the Ironman brand has a roster of 230 events across 57 countries.
The hosting of Ironmand Langkawi ties in with the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign and the government’s target of in achieving 30 million tourist arrivals by 2020.
