Mecca trumps Vegas with world’s largest hotel

The world’s largest hotel is due to open in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 2017.

The Abraj Kudai complex will house 10,000 rooms in 12 separate towers and feature rooftop helipads, a convention centre, shopping malls and restaurants – located just two kilometres from Mecca’s holy mosque Masjid al-Haram.

The Abraj Judai will bump the MGM Grand in Las Vegas from top of the list, which currently has 6,198 rooms, followed closely by the First World Hotel in Malaysia with 6,118 rooms.

Designed by architects Dar al-Handasah, the complex will be built on an area of 686,000 square feet at a cost of US$3.5 billion.
