Kuala Lumpur has been selected to host the 84th International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in 2018.
It is hoped that WLIC 2018 will raise Malaysia’s profile as an economic education hub and first-world knowledge country.
The event is expected to welcome over 3,000 attendees from more than 100 countries, generating almost RM45 million (approx US$11m) for the Malaysian economy.
"The WLIC 2018 adds to the list of the growing number of world conferences that have selected Malaysia as the host country," says Zulkefli Hj Sharif, chief executive officer of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
"In a time where Malaysia is already being recognised for its effort to elevate the quality of Malaysian education offerings, we are giving rise to a platform that provides the opportunity for delegates both locally and globally."
