ELIGIBILITY rules to apply for support to hold international meetings in South Korea have been relaxed to provide extra support to groups affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and allow for hybrid events.
An updated support program from Korea MICE Bureau, under the Korea Tourism Organisation, takes hybrid and online events into account.
The program will provide a single eligibility criteria for all international conventions.
Eligibility previously depended on whether the convention was hosted by an international organisation or not. Under the new, all conventions must have a minimum of 100 attendees with at least 50 from overseas, and the event must last a day or longer.
Online, offline and hybrid meetings all qualify for support and the total attendee count will include online and offline attendees.
International conventions that meet the updated criteria are categorised into A and B Type events depending on the event start date.
Conventions with a starting date from now until June 30, 2021 come under Type A, and events with a other start dates fall under Type B. The application deadline for Type B events is December 10, 2020. The amount of support provided will vary depending on the type and size of the event.
Extra support items for Type A events include:
- Support towards digital technology use during the event;
- Venue rental and labour costs related to Covid-19 prevention;
- Support for events held at unique venues.
The updated support guidelines and eligibility criteria document can be found on the Korea MICE Bureau website under Conventions Support. Korea MICE Bureau can also be contacted directly for any additional inquiries.
