HKECIA to hold Global Exhibitions Day conference

The Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association is to hold a conference in support of the first-ever Global Exhibitions Day on June 8.

The conference, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will be on the theme China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative, President Xi Jinping’s ambitious proposal to connect Asia, Europe and Africa and promote economic co-operation among the continents with an adaptation of the historical Silk Road.

The conference will explore how the initiative will benefit the exhibition industry in the Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region, and Hong Kong’s role in helping international companies explore the scheme’s potential.

Participants will include; Simon Booker, partner, head of economics and regulation, Hong Kong, KPMG; Nat Wong, principal consultant, Nat Wong Consultants; Raymond Yip, deputy executive director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Chen Zhongqiu, secretary general, Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo; Mathias Kuepper, general manager, exhibitions and conferences, Koelnmesse; and Mark Cochrane, Asia Pacific regional manager of exhibition industry association UFI.

Global Exhibitions Day, driven by UFI and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events, is aimed at “highlighting the exhibition industry’s benefits for the economy and the fun of working in the industry”. More than 30 associations from around the world have pledged their support for the initiative with a range of events.
