CWT and Etihad team up for carbon-offsetting

BUSINESS-TRAVEL management platform CWT has teamed up with Etihad Airways to launch a unique carbon offsetting initiative.

The partnership is the first of its kind between the United Arab Emirates’ national carrier and a travel management company.

The initiative forms part of Etihad’s Corporate Conscious Choices programme and will see all CWT client bookings made on Etihad-operated flights automatically offset by the airline using the ICAO Carbon Emissions Calculation.

Until March 31, the global partnership will see all offsets purchased go to Etihad’s official offsetting climate action programmes in Makame Savannah REDD project in Tanzania, Peru’s Cordillera Azul National Park and Indonesia’s Katingan Mentaya Project.

A spokesman said that beyond this initiative Etihad and CWT’s global partnership would continue its efforts to drive forward carbon neutrality and deliver carbon footprint solutions.

“Seeking more environmentally responsible travel solutions is a continuing focus, and our initial offsetting partnership with Etihad is the latest in our range of such ground-breaking initiatives,” said Patrick Andersen, president and chief commercial officer at CWT.

Tony Douglas, group CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Innovation and sustainability are at the core of our business, and our carbon-offsetting partnership with CWT is another fundamental iterative step towards us realising our ambitious sustainability goals to reduce carbon emissions in the air and through global partnership efficiencies.”
