China’s Universal Studios

Partnering with Chinese film director Feng Xiaogang and movie producers Huayi Brothers Media, Mission Hills Group has launched Movie Town, a film-themed attraction that features settings from a range of Feng’s most famous movies. The facility is expected to be a major entertainment and commercial district, mirroring California’s Universal Studios as an all-in-one destination that includes international brands, wine cellars, souvenir stores and boutique hotels.

Located within the Mission Hills Haikou Resort on Hainan island, Movie Town is made up of three themed districts with iconic landmarks and streets from Feng’s films, as well as a movie set and five mega indoor film studios. With a total investment of US$300 million, the entire area spans six kilometres and expects to attract five million visitors every year.

Aside from Movie Town, Mission Hills Haikou is in the process of completing a Low-Carbon Footprint Centre that will include a Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance and Hard Rock Hotel, in addition to multiple leisure and shopping outlets.

Situated in a lush estate, the 539-room Mission Hills Haikou hotel has a range of function and meeting rooms that seat between six and 300 delegates in its hotel and clubhouse,
and a ballroom that can host 1,000 for cocktails and seat 800 theatre-style. The resort is also home to ten world-class golf courses.
